When you hand over your baggage, you will receive a tag identifying it. You must keep this tag until you receive your baggage.
Atlânticoline reserves the right to decline any responsibility for damage to hand luggage.
Both checked baggage and hand luggage are limited to the exclusive belongings of the passenger holding the transport ticket.
Atlânticoline is not responsible, in case of loss or damage, for food products, valuables, including negotiable securities, gold, silver, jewelry, fine jewelry, works of art, audiovisual equipment, mobile phones, video cameras, computer/electronic equipment or sports equipment, including fishing or diving equipment, which will be considered hand luggage for all purposes, even if checked as hold baggage.
In the case of baggage with non-standard characteristics, especially larger dimensions, the respective cost will be charged to the passenger, according to the current tariff. This transport is subject to ship availability and must be requested at least 48 hours in advance.

Pets are allowed, provided they are in suitable cabins, which are the sole responsibility of the owner. Exceptionally, if the animal’s size does not allow for proper accommodation, Atlânticoline provides a specific area for transport, upon prior request from the passenger. Pets cannot travel with passengers and must be placed in a designated area.
Carry-on baggage containing any type of beverages and/or food items is not permitted, with the exception of food for babies, children, and the sick.
Baggage that, due to its characteristics, violates onboard safety regulations is not permitted. In addition to what is stipulated in special legislation, the following baggage is not permitted:
- Any type of explosives, flammable materials, and harmful or toxic substances;
- Other dangerous goods, as classified by the IMO;
- Live animals, other than pets.
- All passengers must have a ticket.
- Passenger boarding begins 15 minutes before departure time for trips on the ships Gilberto Mariano, Cruzeiro do Canal, Cruzeiro das Ilhas, and Ariel. These vessels provide maritime connections between the islands of the Triangle (Faial, Pico, São Jorge) and the islands of the Western group (Flores and Corvo). The boarding deadline for passengers is 10 minutes before departure time.
- For vehicle boarding on the ship Gilberto Mariano, the driver and their vehicle must arrive at least 20 minutes before departure time.
- Passenger and vehicle boarding for trips on ships A and B begins 60 minutes before departure time. The boarding deadline for passengers and vehicles is 30 minutes before departure time.
- In ports where the stopover period is shorter than the indicated time for presence in the port, passenger and vehicle boarding begins at the indication of a crew member, usually after disembarkation operations are completed.
- Each passenger must present their travel ticket for verification and access validation to the crew member performing boarding or at the validation equipment.
- Passengers with reduced mobility and passengers traveling with children have priority boarding.
- Passengers must not board outside of the previously established locations, in violation of safety regulations for access on board.
The contractual conditions of transport differ according to the type of vessel, the route and the time of year in which the trip takes place.
Please check the conditions of your trip. The transport contract stipulates the relationship and responsibility between the passenger and Atlânticoline.
- “Companion animal” means any animal kept or intended to be kept by humans, particularly in their home, for their entertainment and companionship, in accordance with the provisions of the European Convention for the Protection of Pet Animals, approved by European Decree No. 13/93 of April 13.
- The transport of pets is permitted, provided they are in suitable enclosures to be provided by the owner. These are subject to a specific fee. Guide dogs and service and emotional support animals are exempt from the mandatory transport in an enclosure and from the payment of the fee, provided they have supporting documentation.
- The transport of unaccompanied pets by passengers is permitted on trips between the islands of the Triangle (Faial, Pico and São Jorge). On trips exceeding 20 nautical miles, the transport of unaccompanied animals is not permitted.
- The animal must remain inside the enclosure, be in perfect health and not have unpleasant odors.
- Small domestic animals may be transported with their owner inside the ship, in a suitable and waterproof enclosure appropriate for transporting animals and that allows the animal to stand, turn around and lie down naturally. Rodents (e.g., hamsters, guinea pigs, chinchillas), as well as tortoises and turtles, must be transported in a rigid crate. For the animal to be transported inside the ship, the carrier crate cannot exceed the following dimensions: 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. The animal, as well as its crate, must be in perfect hygienic condition. The carrier crate must not be placed on tables, seats, railings or other surfaces/equipment that may be damaged. Any discomfort to other passengers (odors, allergies, noise, etc.) must be minimized.
- On the Ariel launch, which operates between Corvo and Flores, the transport of animals is not permitted, except with prior authorization from the Carrier.
- The transport company does not recommend transporting animals inside vehicles and is not responsible for any consequences thereof.
